The person who passed away in a chopper accident in the Doncaster area on Thursday has been revealed by his relatives as the victim, who was 70.
The person flying, 41, and another two passengers aboard, a 58-year-old woman and a child, ten years old, received light wounds.
In a announcement shared by authorities, the loved ones described Mr Smith as "a cherished partner, father and granddad" and mentioned they were "all heartbroken by this unexpected death".
"He had an authentic love for aviation, and this was a hobby he bonded over with his loved ones," they noted.
"Peter particularly liked to share moments with his grandkids doing crafts and enjoying games. He was a proud loving relative who devoted much of his days with his son, both partnering and personally. Peter loved to have meals out with his spouse and had a particularly sweet tooth."
The aircraft had taken off from that airport, in Nottinghamshire, shortly before it experienced an accident in the local district of the area, off a nearby road, around the morning GMT.
Authorities from investigative bodies have begun a joint inquiry into the incident.
In the statement, the family stated they were assisting the inquiry and requested people "to avoid guess on the factors involved in the accident".
"The family would like to ask for solitude during this very difficult moment to permit us to process what has happened and mourn for the loss of him," they added.
A spokesperson for the agency mentioned a team of specialists in aircraft operations, mechanical systems and flight information had been sent to the location on that day.
The aircraft is believed to have been operated by a helicopter firm located at the airport. The company announced it would "persist in support" the agencies involved in the inquiry into the crash.
The firm, which according to its website provides aviation training and activities, stated in a update on social media: "In this particularly sad moment every one of our thoughts and hopes are with the family and companions of each person concerned in the aircraft crash which occurred the other day."
The announcement continued: "Our team's heartfelt thoughts are extended to all those touched by this disaster and we will of course keep on assist relevant agencies participating in the current probe."
