The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
