Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located many other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A high-ranking official commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved rapidly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
